Popular WURFL Device Description Repository (DDR) now available with New Improved API
ScientiaMobile, Inc., a US company offering the popular Open-Source WURFL framework commercially, has today announced the availability of its WURFL API version 1.4. Companies that need to tailor their content to mobile devices can rely on state-of-the-art Device Detection from a company with 12 years experience in this field.
WURFL API 1.4 is made available for the Java, PHP and ASP.NET platforms, in addition to the popular DB API, geared at enterprises that prefer to maintain their data in a RDBMS.
In addition, a C++ API is made available to customers who need WURFL integrated at the network level or with exceptional performance requirements.
“The WURFL API has represented the de-facto standard way to access a Device Description Repository (DDR) for small and large companies alike.” – said Luca Passani, ScientiaMobile CTO – “Version 1.4 of the API represents a great evolution, in that it enables more efficient handling of mixed web/mobile HTTP traffic. This comes in addition to the great improvements in the logic to match Google Android, Apple iOS, Nokia, Microsoft and RIM devices.”
“Performance has been a primary focus for this release, and this applies to all APIs” – said Steve Kamerman, ScientiaMobile’s COO. – “In addition to the introduction of High-Performance mode, our DB and PHP APIs support FaceBook’s HipHop for PHP. This means a 20x performance boost for those APIs, a gain that will make our enterprise customers happy”.
“We have used the WURFL API for years. Version 1.4 of the API represents the improvement that we hoped for in terms of precision of device detection and performance. We serve millions of users every day” – said Stig Bakken, CTO at Zedge, a large mobile content discovery platform.
“We perform impressive amounts of device and capability detections per second with the new WURFL DB 1.4 API deployment. Migration from the previous version was seamless. ScientiaMobile offers a superb product and excellent customer service” – declared Fernando Ramírez, Technology Innovation Manager at Naranya, the leading Mobile Media & Technology player in LATAM.
The WURFL APIs are made available under AGPL V3 license through the WURFL SourceForge website.
